Can I Ask You a Question?
What if having healthy clear skin isn’t about covering up the condition?
What if it isn’t about the right lotion, supplements, or medications that merely stuff the disease further back into the body?
Once you stop with these so called fixes, the redness, the acne, the blotchiness, the flare-ups… it all comes right back.
Instead, what if there was a way to solve the problem?
To get to the root cause and to understand that it’s a whole-body approach.
My Very Personal Story
Before my rosacea diagnosis, people would come up to me all the time and ask me “are you ok”? Everywhere I went this would happen. One day, a lady approached me and asked me if I had lupus. I got nervous and made an appointment to see a dermatologist.
I was diagnosed with rosacea and I asked if my acne rosacea could have anything to do with what I was eating, and she said, “No, diet has nothing to do with it.”
She sat me down and showed me a brochure of the worst rosacea cases -the ones that made the patients look like they had been burned in a fire and deformed.
She looked at me and said, “This is what you’re going to look like, and you’ll have to live on medications for the rest of your life.”
The actual diagnosis came a few weeks before Christmas in 2002. That year I avoided having pictures taken at all cost.
I was too embarrassed and depressed. I wish I allowed myself to be photographed back then because now I hardly have any visuals to show just how bad the rosacea was. My entire face was constantly bright red. Rosacea not only affected my nose and cheeks but my chin, forehead, painful red bumps, and broken capillaries.
My hubby did snap a few pictures here and there when I was covered in green makeup to cover blemish and redness – because we were going out somewhere nice. I felt so self-conscience about my face.
I Just Wanted Answers
After leaving the Doctor’s office that day, I was at my lowest. I got in my car and just cried out loud. I kept saying “I just don’t know what to do!” between my sobs.
I was so scared, and felt so alone.
I questioned everything. Was it my allergy shots that caused this? Or maybe my chemical hair straightening product?
I just wanted answers.
When I got home I told my husband to divorce me right away. He said, “What are you talking about!”
I told him the dermatologist said that my face would look like I was caught in a fire soon and that I will look so ugly. He didn’t deserve to be stuck with someone that was going to look disfigured.
I was so low.
We went online to research more about rosacea only to find a whole list of no no’s. Here are a few examples:
- do not go out in the sun
- avoid cold weather, air conditioning, or extreme temperatures
- no hard exercise or heavy sweating
- eat foods and drinks at room temperature only
Don’t do this or that, and if you do… then look out, the condition would only get far worse.
“I Can’t Live Like This”
I said, “I can’t live like this!”
I didn’t want to be constantly worried and afraid that I was doing something that would make my condition worse.
I wondered how I could continue with a normal life. I didn’t want my face to get worse so I did those things that were recommend on the rosacea website.
They knew best, right?
By this time the disease started to consume my entire life!
My mom even said to me “Kim, you’re living like a maniac”,
… and she was right!
I was afraid to go outside of the house.
I honestly wasn’t living the life I loved. I was avoiding many pleasures and hobbies like:
- kickboxing
- hot yoga
- meeting with friends
- going to work
and so on.
I was also constantly running to the mirror to check my face and the fear of wondering what my face was going to look like in the morning kept me up at night
My Friends and Family Were Worried About My Well-Being…
I wondered if the skin care products could be a possible cause and thought maybe, just maybe, I could wash this away.
Or maybe, just maybe, if I found the right cleanser then this would all be gone.
The metro gel lotion prescribed by my dermatologist made my skin worse. It always made it redder, but I was told to keep using anyway until my face got used to it.
In fact, my skin never got used to it or got any better.
I found information about the metro gel lotion prescribed for rosacea. It’s a topical antibiotic and eventually I was doing everything I could to avoid it.
The medicines, even the topical ones, do have side effects. They destroy our good healthy gut flora which is essential for healthy skin.
And to make matters worse, they never solve nor get to the actual root causes of rosacea, and they only push the disease further back into the body’s tissues causing flares ups FOREVER.
I Had Other Symptoms too…
I honestly didn’t know what candida overgrowth was back then, but knew I had a ton of symptoms that weren’t “normal”.
I later found out they were mostly from years of constant overuse of antibiotics. Some of my symptoms included:
- mouth ulcers
- chronic yeast infections
- eye infections
- chronic fatigue
- white tongue
- constant belly bloat
- chronically constipated
- acid reflex
… to name a few.
I had been trying to start a family but could NEVER get pregnant. After an infertility consultation, the doctor suggested that I get blood work and to quit my corporate job of 15 years due to the stress and adrenal fatigue.
The protocol for infertility treatment options were drugs and surgery.
The blood work came back and found a genetic mutation that inhibits the MTHFR gene. I decided right then and there that I would not be on any more antibiotics… which would be a requirement for surgery.
It Was Time to Get Myself Healthy Instead.
How to do this, well…that was another story.
My Father had a real passion for health and wellness. As a young girl, I was accustomed to hearing my father say, “Soda is poison and processed food is junk.”
Little did I know that years later, I would be espousing those same beliefs.
He researched electric blankets. He lowered the heat in our house so we would adjust more easily to the colder temperature outside.
As a family, we enjoyed the outdoors and all four seasons. This meant being out in the sun all day at the beach or the pool, hiking, skiing, and other all year outdoor activities.
I was never sick, but when I had a cold he would give me a little whiskey and let me sweat it out.
My Italian grandparents, likewise, instilled in me an appreciation of fresh, local, seasonal, home-cooked meals.
As I got older and busier with my corporate job, I strayed from those whole food choices and my health suffered.
I started getting sick. I had chronic sinusitis for years, but didn’t miss work.
I met my goals, and would go to the doctor for quick fixes of antibiotics.
Quick fixes led to more illness: massive allergies, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, burning in my stomach, and migraines.
I Tried It All…
My journey included spending months and years of my life trying to piece together this large, confusing, and overwhelming puzzle.
I found a lady online who wrote a book on rosacea. Could she help me?
I signed up for her coaching calls which were centered around listening about her story, but provided no real value or service on how to help me.
I needed to know what was going to work for me.
After feeling let down, I signed up for a hair analysis test which showed having a toxic load of heavy metals, particularly in mercury.
I called my father to tell him I was sick. He suggested I try colloidal silver as an all-natural antibiotic. I remember those days… drinking it, spraying it onto my rosacea, and directly into my eyes as well.
I found a holistic center for acupuncture called NAET/muscle testing. This was when first heard words like:
- MSG
- artificial colors
- flavorings
- soy lecithin
- high fructose corn syrup
.. and that these things could be aggravating my skin condition. It was an eye opener to hear about food reactions having a connection to skin and its symptoms.
Homeopathy, was something I considered… but honestly, never found the right remedy.
I also tried adding supplements that promised miracle results for cell damage.
After using the product for six months I saw no improvements.
Around that same time, I was googling and found information that maybe I might need to balance my body’s PH from acid to alkaline.
I ordered a green powder and drank it for three days. Good thing I started it on a Wednesday because by Saturday I was in bed with extreme flu like symptoms.
I immediately lost 20 pounds, had extreme cravings for sugar, and horrific withdrawals that totally scared my family.
Did I forget to tell you that I’m a petite woman, only 5 feet tall, and weighed 95 pounds? I’ll let you do the math on this one.
Was It Time to Find a Professional to Help Me?
My first EVER holistic practitioner walked me through a 4-day guided, gentle, and safe liquid cleanse with daily colonics to gently pull toxins out through the large colon.
With her knowledge and expertise, I learned about probiotics and wheat grass. This led to a research about raw and living foods. A couple weeks later I found a local raw food potluck in my area.
While there, the prep/chef, told me to consider fermented foods. I wondered what in the heck “fermented foods” even meant.
I left that potluck more overwhelmed and confused thinking, “will I ever find the answer for my skin problem? Who do I turn to now? Whom do I trust?”
Every One Promised Me an Answer, But Couldn’t Deliver Results…
I look back now and say, “What would life have been like for me if I had a program or some kind of a step-by-step system to follow that actually worked?”
I would have had results a lot quicker and I wouldn’t have needed to go through so much trial and error to get those results.
- I would have saved time.
- I would have saved money.
- I would have saved my family and friends from worrying about me.
- I would have seen results quicker.
- I would have enjoyed my life, my career, my relationships more.
This has become my why and the passion behind what I do every day.
I call it my life’s mission.
I teach women the steps for having clear, healthy skin naturally from the inside out.
I know you can do this… because I did it.
My “A-ha” Moment…
After hearing about the possibility of a food connection from my acupuncturist, I decided to do my own elimination program to find out if I had other food intolerances that I wasn’t aware of.
I eventually figured out that gluten, dairy, soy, corn, and sugar were all major triggers for me.
Within 30 Days, 80% of All My Symptoms Were Nearly Gone.
I continued the raw food lifestyle as a way of eating free of food triggers that were robbing me of health.
However, what do I do after that? How will I eat after that? Will I ever be able to eat those foods again?
So Many Unanswered Questions…
When it was time to start to re-introduce foods again, I learned how to listen to and decipher what my body was telling me.
I learned:
- how to nourish my body from the inside out
- how to restore a strong digestion system
- how to repair the gut microbiome and the damage to the gut lining
- how to get rid of the food sensitivities and chronic inflammation
- how to naturally detox my body through eating real, whole, seasonal foods, a healthy gut, and mindset.
I also found a way to restore some of the emotional damage my condition caused me over the years. I was able to positively change my mind-body connection through forgiveness and daily affirmations.
What I Believe…
All skin issues have a root cause.
We also need to understand that it’s a whole-body approach and not just a skin problem.
To find the solution, certain steps are required

Rosacea Was a Blessing
I was so grateful for what I’d learned along my journey that I was compelled to pursue a career helping others feel free from the debilitating symptoms of skin issues like rosacea.
I began educating others about seasonal whole foods cleanses, importance of an elimination challenge, food sensitivities, energy, weight loss, leaky gut, and digestive wellness because there is power in knowledge.
I had suffered the ill effects of poor health and the devastating hopelessness that accompanies it. I still shudder when I think back to those low, low points in my life.
